Visual hierarchy is the design principle of arranging elements so the viewer's eye naturally flows from the most important information to the least. In ad design, hierarchy is created through size (larger = more important), color contrast (bright elements draw attention first), spacing (white space isolates key elements), and position (top-left in Western reading patterns). A strong visual hierarchy ensures the headline is read first, followed by the key benefit, then the CTA.
Example
A landing page redesign applies visual hierarchy: massive headline at top, followed by a benefit bullet list, then a large orange CTA button contrasting against a white background. The structured flow increases conversion rate by 18%.
